About this pack
An eye opened in the sky, and the sun stopped rising. Out of the dark come the monsters; out of the ground, the rifts. One village still keeps a fire burning: Kindlewick. Walk its streets, talk to its people, rebuild its ruined houses, then go out into the long night and bring the dawn back, one region at a time.
Gridwright Survivors is a survivors-like with a story. Your weapons fight by themselves; you move, dash and choose your build. Every weapon carries an element, and two different elements on one monster set off a reaction.
Story Mode
- The village hub: people with their own portraits and expressions (8 in the demo, 12 in the full game), new things to say after every chapter, and ruined houses to rebuild (in the demo a farm, a market and a forge), each one changing how your expeditions go.
- Expeditions: close the rifts, free the people caged out there, find the boss, bring back the dawn. Each region turns from night to day when you free it.
- Bosses with telegraphed attacks, health bars and an enraged second phase.
- Raids: the bosses you have beaten, again and harder.
- The demo has the prologue and the first two chapters (Kindle Fields and the two floors of the Old Mine) and the first raid. The full game has seven chapters and the Watcher itself.
Survival Mode
- 15 minutes until dawn, a boss at 13:00, the night lifting as you hold out.
- 5 maps: Kindle Fields, Frostpeak, Sunscar Dunes, the Old Mine (with walls: monsters find their way around them) and the Kindlewick Siege.
Elements And Reactions
Steel bleeds, fire burns, frost chills, shock stuns, venom poisons, arcane marks. Mix two on one monster: SHATTER, BLIGHT, OVERLOAD, FREEZE, ARC and ten more. The book of reactions keeps count of the ones you have found.
In The Demo
- 8 heroes, each with their own start weapon (4 to unlock, with the exact condition shown).
- 15 weapons with 8 levels and an evolution each, 11 passives, 8 permanent upgrades.
- 5 bosses in the demo (Slime King, Stone Golem, Ogre Brute, Sand Wyrm, the Lich), 8 in the full game; 18 kinds of monsters and wild beasts with their colour variants, elites and treasure chests.
- An original soundtrack: 13 tracks.
- Keyboard, mouse and gamepad. Saves after every run.
Controls
WASD or arrows: move. Space: dash (you can't be hit mid-dash). E: talk and use. J: journal. Esc: pause. F11: fullscreen (Windows).
Made From Our Asset Packs
Every sprite in the game comes from the Gridwright asset packs in our shop, https://v3su.itch.io: the heroes, monsters, bosses, portraits, village, dungeon, tiles, effects, icons, UI and fonts. If you make games, you can use the same art in yours: all 37 packs and tools are in the Gridwright Megabundle for $20, https://itch.io/s/207198/gridwright-megabundle-37-pixel-art-packs-tools-for-20
Make your own game from it: the full Godot 4 source of this demo (code, art, music and docs) is the Gridwright Survivors Template.
How It Was Made
The art is drawn by code (no image generator), the music and sounds are synthesised in code, and the code and dialogue were written with AI-assisted tools.
Feedback
This is an early demo. Tell us in the comments what was too hard, too easy or unclear, and which boss you want to see next.
