About this pack

64x64 pixel art dialogue portraits: 36 ready-made characters, each in 8 expressions, and every expression with blink and talk frames. Plus 330 mix-and-match layers to make your own. For RPGs, visual novels, adventure, space and life-sim games.

Licence in one line: use it in your commercial games; do not resell the files. No credit required.

What you get

  • 36 ready-made characters in three genres. Fantasy: Knight, Elf Archer, Wizard, Dwarf Warrior, Orc Warrior, Cleric, Rogue, Queen, Bard, Innkeeper, Witch, Goblin Merchant. Sci-fi: Captain, Pilot, Engineer, Android, Alien Envoy, Medic, Marine, Hacker, Xeno Scientist, Bounty Hunter, Astronaut, Smuggler. Modern: Office Worker, Student, Detective, Doctor, Chef, Police Officer, Punk, Grandma, Barista, Gamer, Builder, Grandpa.
  • 8 expressions each: neutral, happy, sad, angry, surprised, thinking, scared, hurt. The elderly, orc, alien and android characters get all 8 too.
  • 4 frames per expression: still, blink, talk 1, talk 2. Loop the talk frames while your text types out. 1,152 frames in all.
  • 330 layers to build your own characters: 18 bodies (9 skins incl. green, blue and metal, round or pointed ears), eyes and mouths in 9 colours, 13 hair styles in 8 colours, 5 beards, 67 outfits (plate armour, leather armour, robe, tunic, noble dress, cloak, uniform, flightsuit, spacesuit, sci-fi armour, cyber jacket, tshirt, hoodie, shirt & tie, suit, sweater, leather jacket, labcoat, police, chef), 37 headwear (crowns, wizard hats, helmets, hoods, caps, headsets, goggles...) and 15 face accessories (glasses, eyepatch, monocle, cyber eye, scar, earrings, war paint, tusks, bandage).
  • compose.py: a short Python script that stacks any layers into one character sheet. Our ready-made characters are built from the same layers, and the build checks that compose.py gives the same pixels for every one of them.

Files

  • One sheet per character: 4 columns (still, blink, talk 1, talk 2) x 8 rows (expressions), 256x512 at 1x, with a JSON map of every frame.
  • Every frame as its own PNG (1,152 per scale). The layers: animated sheets for eyes and brows, single 64x64 images for everything else; layers.json with the slots and the order.
  • 1x, 2x and 3x (the 2x and 3x are scaled copies). Palette files (.hex, .gpl). README and LICENSE.

Why this pack

  • Talk and blink in every expression, not one talking face per character.
  • A layer kit, not just finished faces: make the rest of your cast in the same style. Layers never cover the eyes or mouth (the build checks every frame), except the accessories made to.
  • Fits our UI packs: the 64x64 cell sits in a 76x76 9-sliced frame of Gridwright Fantasy RPG UI, Sci-Fi HUD or Casual Game UI.
  • A free sample on this page: 3 characters (one per genre) and 25 layers, so you can test it in your engine first.

Good to know

  • The dialogue boxes and scenes in the screenshots are Gridwright Fantasy RPG UI, Sci-Fi HUD, Casual Game UI, Medieval Village, Sci-Fi Interiors and Modern People, sold separately. They are not in this pack.
  • Not included: side views or full bodies, backgrounds, RPG Maker faceset layout, engine project files. Front view only.

How it was made

Every pixel is drawn by code (Python): no image generator, no third-party art. The drawing code was written with AI-assisted tools, which is why the page is tagged AI Assisted.
