About this pack

A top-down 16x16 pixel art medieval village: 377 tiles and props with a roof and facade kit for houses of any size, 18 ready-made buildings, a cobblestone road autotile and 57 village props. For fantasy RPGs, adventure games, life sims, colony and town builders.

Licence in one line: use it in your commercial games; do not resell the files. No credit required.

What you get

  • Houses of any size (184 tiles): pitched roofs in 4 styles (thatch, clay tile, slate, wood shingle) as ridge, slope and eave rows with left, middle and right pieces, every roof also snow-covered, dormer windows, and facades in 4 materials (timber frame, fieldstone, wooden planks, whitewash): walls, windows, doors, open doors and shop counters, with lit night versions of the windows and counters.
  • 18 ready-made buildings: a cottage, an inn, a smithy, a shop, a townhouse and a hall, each by day, lit for night and in winter, with their recipes in the JSON.
  • 21 facade overlays: 10 hanging shop signs with icons (inn, smith, alchemist, baker, armourer, weapons, herbalist, scribe, general store, tailor; no words), flower boxes, wall lanterns (day and night), two-storey banners and ivy. Chimneys (plain and snowy) with animated smoke, and a weathervane.
  • Ground: a 47-tile cobblestone road autotile that lies on grass or snow, market-square flagstones, grass and snow, a dry-stone wall and a wooden palisade with 16 joins each and a gate.
  • 57 props (70 sprites with the animation frames): market stalls in 4 colours, a well, a fountain, a notice board, a signpost, lamp posts (day and night), braziers, barrels, crates, sacks, handcarts, a smithy set (anvil, forge, grindstone, weapon rack, armour stand), a woodpile, benches, a table, a laundry line, flower pots, a wayside shrine, tombstones and a grave, trees (oak, autumn, apple, pine and snowy versions), bushes, a windmill with turning sails, a watchtower and flag poles.
  • 23 animation frames included in the count: the windmill, chimney smoke, the fountain, the forge, braziers and flags; frame rates are in the README and the JSON.

Made to drop in

  • Strict 16x16 grid, PNG only. 57 larger pieces are exact multiples (market stalls 48x32, the windmill 48x64, trees 32x48) and stand on their bottom row.
  • Every file is named after the object (roof_slate_snow_eave_left.png, facade_timber_window_lit_middle.png), and the neighbour bitmask is in every cobblestone file name and in village.json, so you can wire the autotile to any engine.
  • No baked shadows, so nothing to strip before you add your own.
  • Single PNGs and sheets, at 1x, 2x and 3x, and a README with the bitmask diagram and how to stack a house.
  • Same grid and view as the Gridwright Top-Down Tileset, Farm, Interiors and Top-Down Characters (each sold separately).

The demo village in the screenshots, by day, by night and in winter, was assembled by a small autotiler from these same tiles. The people walking in it are from Gridwright Top-Down Characters (sold separately, not included).

Try before you buy

The free sample has 93 pieces: grass, the full cobblestone autotile, the thatch roof set, the timber-frame facade set, 3 shop signs, a barrel, a crate, a lamp post and an oak.

What it does not include

No characters, no interiors, no water or bridges, no RPG Maker sheets and no engine project files. Roofs run left-right (side-gabled). The art is drawn at 16x16; the 2x and 3x files are scaled copies.

Licence

Use and modify in personal and commercial projects. Shipping the tiles inside your game is fine. No resale or redistribution of the assets, modified or not. Credit is appreciated, not required. Not for AI training or NFTs.

How it was made

Every piece is drawn by code: the autotile shapes are exact geometry, so the pieces always meet. The code was written with AI-assisted tools. No image generator was used, and no third-party art is included.
