About this pack

A pixel art isometric castle and siege kit: 260 pieces on the exact 32x16 diamond grid of Gridwright Isometric Tiles: curtain walls that join by themselves (16 pieces per finish) with battlements and a wall walk, towers and gatehouses that sit on the wall, a portcullis and a drawbridge that move, a keep, barracks and a stable, siege engines (a catapult that fires in 4 frames, a trebuchet, a ballista, a battering ram, a siege tower, ladders) and an army camp, with a separate shadow sprite for every standing piece. For strategy and city builders, tactics games, RPGs, tower defense and roguelikes.

Licence in one line: use it in your commercial games; do not resell the files. No credit required.

Build scenes with this pack: every piece of it is in the Gridwright Isometric Builder, a map builder in your browser with all our isometric packs, which exports PNG, GIF, Tiled and Godot scenes.

What you get

  • Curtain walls (80 pieces): grey stone, sandstone and dark basalt with 16 joins each (NE, SE, SW, NW neighbours): half a cell thick, 32 px tall, a battered footing, a flagstone wall walk, battlements on every open side and arrow slits. The three finishes share one shape, so they line up exactly. Plus a ruined wall and a wooden palisade, 16 joins each.
  • Towers (14): round and square in all three finishes, with battlements or under a slate roof with a pennant; a ruined tower; a wooden watchtower. They stand on a wall cell and the walls beside them join them.
  • Gates (36 sprites with the frames): gatehouses in the three finishes for walls in both directions, the portcullis rising over 4 frames; a palisade gate, closed and open; a drawbridge that rises over 4 frames.
  • Siege (18): a catapult firing in 4 frames (facing both ways), a counterweight trebuchet, a ballista, a covered battering ram, a siege tower and siege ladders that lean on a wall.
  • The army camp (31): round pavilions in red, blue and gold, banner poles waving in 4 frames in four colours, weapon racks, armour stands, archery targets, a training dummy, spiked barricades.
  • Props (17): catapult stones, an arrow barrel, a castle well, a torch post (unlit and lit), a forge (unlit and burning), boiling oil.
  • Buildings (10): a keep with four corner turrets, barracks and a stable, 2x2 cells, door left or right (drawn both ways, not mirrored); the keep and the barracks also with lit windows.
  • Ground (20 blocks, 15 floors, 4 stairs, 15 track pieces): courtyard flagstones, grey ashlar, sandstone and dark basalt masonry, siege mud with puddles; ashlar stairs in 4 directions; a rutted mud track with 15 corner pieces.
  • 46 shadow sprites: nothing is baked into the art; each standing piece has its own shadow with the same anchor.

Made to drop in

  • The same grid as our other isometric packs: 32x16 diamond, 16 px blocks, every file a multiple of 16 px. It mixes with Isometric Tiles (grass, water for the moat, trees) and Isometric Characters (the soldiers), sold separately.
  • One JSON for everything (isometric.json): footprint, anchor, height, facing, frames and wall joins, plus the placement formula and the draw order in the README.
  • Clear names: castle_wall_grey_05.png, tower_round_sandstone_roof.png, gatehouse_basalt_nesw_f3.png, catapult_se_f2.png, keep_left_lit.png.
  • Single PNGs and sheets at 1x, 2x and 3x, and the palette (.hex, .gpl).
  • The maps in the screenshots were put together from these same sprites (grass, water, trees and soldiers from the two packs above).

Try before you buy

The free sample has 69 sprites: courtyard and ashlar ground, the 15 mud-track pieces, all 16 joins of the grey curtain wall, two towers, the grey gatehouse with its 4 portcullis frames, a catapult, a pavilion, a waving banner, a torch post, a weapon rack, a training dummy and catapult stones, with their shadows.

This pack is also in the Gridwright Megabundle (every Gridwright pack and tool for $20) and the Gridwright Isometric Bundle.

What it does not include

No characters (see Isometric Characters), no grass or water blocks (see Isometric Tiles), no interiors, no RPG Maker sheets and no engine project files (the README gives the placement formula and the draw order). The night look in the screenshots is a darkening shader. The art is drawn at 1x; the 2x and 3x files are scaled copies.

Licence

Use and modify in personal and commercial projects. Shipping the tiles inside your game is fine. No resale or redistribution of the assets, modified or not. Credit is appreciated, not required. Not for AI training or NFTs.

How it was made

Every piece is drawn by code: a small ray caster draws each block, wall, tower, siege engine and building from simple solids on the exact 2:1 grid, lights it from the left and bands it onto 6-tone colour ramps. The code was written with AI-assisted tools. No image generator was used, and no third-party art is included.
