Fantasy Map Kit cover

What's in the pack

Everything to draw a pixel art fantasy world map on a 16x16 grid, in two looks: an inked parchment map and a bright game overworld. Terrain and town stamps, coasts, rivers and trails that join, fog of war, sea monsters, a compass, banners, a 9-slice frame and animated quest markers: 102 pieces per look, 244 frames in all. For RPG overworlds, level-select maps, strategy games and tabletop campaign maps.

Licence in one line: use it in your commercial games and maps; do not resell the files. No credit required.

What you get (in each look)

  • Terrain (15): mountain, mountains twin, mountain snow, hills, hill, forest, tree, pines, pine, swamp, dunes, palm, big mountain, volcano, island. The volcano smokes (4 frames).
  • Places (11): village, town, castle, tower, ruins, cave, dungeon, port, shrine, city, castle big.
  • Sea (4): ship, sea serpent, whale, kraken, 2 frames each.
  • Coasts (16 tiles) picked by which corners are land: mark land on the grid and every shoreline meets its neighbours.
  • Fog of war (15 tiles) on the same corner rule, to lay over the map and clear as the player explores.
  • Rivers (15) and dotted trails (15) by the edges they leave through, always at the edge middle.
  • Map pieces: a compass rose (32 and 16 px), a scale bar, a ribbon banner and a scroll cartouche for titles (stretchable), a 9-slice map frame with corner ornaments.
  • Markers: a player pin, quest ! and ? bubbles, a flag (4 frames each) and an X that marks the spot (2 frames).

Files

  • Every piece and frame as its own PNG at 1x, 2x, 3x and 4x, in both looks.
  • Each joining set also as a 4x4 sheet where the cell number is the mask, ready for an autotile rule.
  • pieces.json: size, frames, fps and 9-slice margins of every piece, and the mask rules. Palettes, README, LICENSE.

Why this kit

  • Two looks of the same pieces: a parchment map for the menu and a game overworld for play, and they line up.
  • Tiles that join by rule, not just stamps: coasts, fog, rivers and trails meet their neighbours on any map you draw.
  • Animated markers for quests and the player, ready for a level-select screen.

Good to know
