What's in the pack
48 pixel art visual novel backgrounds: 14 locations at day, sunset and night, the outdoor ones also in rain. Home, school, town, work, nature and two spooky places, with no characters in them, so your sprites have the stage. 16:9 at 640x360, 1280x720 and 1920x1080, with a Ren'Py file ready to drop in.
Licence in one line: use them in your commercial games; do not resell the files. No credit required.
What you get
- 14 locations: bedroom, classroom, school hallway, cafe, office, library, gothic manor hall, basement, town street, park, rooftop, train station, beach, shrine steps.
- Every location at day, sunset and night (6 outdoor ones also in rain): lamps, windows and screens light up at night, the sky changes through the windows.
- Animations: a rain loop (8 frames, transparent) to draw over any outdoor scene, and the basement at night with a flickering bulb (6 frames).
- Three sizes: 640x360 (pixel-perfect source), 1280x720 and 1920x1080, exact whole-number copies.
- Ren'Py ready: gridwright_backgrounds.rpy defines every image (scene bg classroom day, scene bg street rain, show gw rain), plus backgrounds.json for other engines.
Made to match
- The text box, name plate and portrait in the first screenshot are from Gridwright Pixel VN UI and Gridwright Pixel Portraits (each sold separately, not included): the sizes line up.
- One-point perspective rooms, one light model for every time of day, a small palette per picture.
What it does not include
No characters, no UI and no music. The art is drawn at 640x360; the bigger files are scaled copies.

How it was made
Every scene is drawn by code: rooms in one-point perspective from boxes on a floor, front views from shapes, and the times of day from one colour model (sky, light, lamps), quantised to a small palette. No image generator was used and no third-party art is included. The code was written with AI-assisted tools, which is why the page is tagged AI Assisted.
