What's in the pack
A small side-scrolling platformer for Godot 4 that works from the first click. Run, jump, stomp goblins, collect coins and gems, touch checkpoint flags, dodge spikes and pits, and reach the door. Open the project, press F5, and build your own platformer on top of it. The pixel art, the parallax background, the UI, the sounds and the music are included.
Licence in one line: the code is MIT; the art may be used in your own games, free or commercial, but not shared or sold as art or as a starter kit.
What you get
- A jump that feels right: acceleration and friction, coyote time, a jump buffer, a shorter jump when you let go early and faster falling than rising, every number exported for tuning.
- Goblins that patrol and turn at walls and ledges: stomp them from above, their side costs a heart.
- Coins, 3 gems, a heart, spikes and pits, and checkpoint flags you respawn at.
- A full level 110 tiles long with one-way platforms, painted with a 47-tile grass terrain in a TileMapLayer.
- A 6-layer parallax background with drifting clouds.
- Jump and landing dust, a poof for defeated goblins, a level clock and a level complete window; the best time, coins and gems are saved and shown on the title screen.
- A main menu, a pause menu and game over; keyboard and gamepad; pixel-perfect scaling (640x360 base resolution); music and sound effects.
Made to be changed
- Short scripts with comments. The hero, the goblin and the level each fit on a few screens.
- One TileSet: paint ground with the terrain tool; spikes sit on their own physics layer.
- A README with the controls, how the project is organised and 5 first changes (tune the jump, paint a new level, add an enemy, give the knight his sword, change the scenery).
- A play test that plays the level by itself (jump heights, coyote time, jump buffer, pickups, stomp, damage, checkpoint, spikes, pit, pause, goal, game over) and prints a line per check.
What it does not include
One level, one enemy type, no attacks or power-ups: the project is small on purpose, so it is easy to read and to change. Godot 4.7 or newer is needed (made with 4.7.2, Compatibility renderer). The art is licensed for games made with this project; to use the packs elsewhere, get the packs.
The art comes from these Gridwright packs
Platformer Tileset, Side-View Characters, Parallax Backgrounds (Meadow), Combat VFX, Pixel UI Kit (Pastel theme), Pixel Fonts, Retro Sound Effects and Chiptune Music. Only the files this game uses are included. The full packs are in Gridwright Studio: https://gridwright.store
