What's in the pack
Top-down pixel art spaceship parts that snap together on a 16x16 grid. 66 parts in 4 factions, each also damaged (528 part sprites), animated engine flames, turrets, shields, 30 premade ships and a Ship Builder that runs in your browser. Cockpit x body x wing x engine x weapon alone makes 38,400 different ships. For shoot 'em ups, space roguelites, fleet battles and space strategy.
Licence in one line: use it in your commercial games; do not resell the files. Credit "Art by Gridwright" with a link.
The parts
10 hull bodies and spines, 8 capital-ship slabs, 8 cockpits and noses, 20 wings (left and right), 6 engines, 8 weapons, 6 utility pieces.
- One rule for every join: up/down on the 8 px spine (x 4..11), sideways on y 4..11. Capital slabs fill their cell, so they tile into ships of any size (bow, slabs, stern).
- 4 factions: Navy, Raider, Military, Royal. Damaged versions of every part, with holes, exposed frames and scorch.
- 24 flame animations (4 colours x 6 engines, 4 frames), 3 turrets in 8 directions, 5 shield bubbles (32-128 px, 6 frames).
- Right wings are drawn on their own, so the light still comes from the top left.
The Ship Builder
- One HTML file, works offline. Click parts onto the grid, mirror mode, pick faction, damage and flame colour, or press Random.
- Export PNG at 1x, 2x or 4x, a 4-frame sheet with the flames, and the recipe as JSON. Built ships are shaded as one piece: one clean outline, no seams.
- Tested in headless Microsoft Edge: its exports match the pack's PNGs pixel for pixel. Works in Chrome and Edge on Windows.
Made to drop in
- Every part, flame, turret, shield and ship as its own PNG at 1x-4x, sheets with JSON maps, spaceships.json with every recipe.
- The stars, shots and text in the screenshots are previews (not included).
Licence
Use and modify in personal and commercial projects. Ships you build are yours to use in your games. No resale or redistribution of the assets or the builder. Credit is required: "Art by Gridwright" with a link to gridwright.store or this page, in your game's credits or on its store page. Not for AI training or NFTs.
How it was made
Every part is drawn by code as a grid of material letters and shaded by code (outline, light from the top left). The code and the builder were written with AI-assisted tools. No image generator was used, and no third-party art is included.
